The African Nurses and Midwives Confederation (ANMC) has called for peace in conflict areas during its continental 2nd edition conference currently being held in Livingstone, Zambia.
The ANMC Conference 2026, taking place from 2–7 March 2026, brings together nurses, midwives, researchers, educators, and health leaders from across Africa to discuss the future of nursing and midwifery on the continent.
During the gathering, participants emphasized the critical role that nurses and midwives play not only in healthcare delivery but also in promoting peace, stability, and humanitarian values in communities, aligning with the global #NursesforPeace movement.
This ICN-led initiative highlights the responsibility of health professionals to advocate for peace, protect healthcare workers, and support communities affected by conflict and crises.
The conference also serves as a platform to:
1. Share research and innovations in nursing and midwifery
2. Strengthen professional networks across Africa
3. Discuss health policy, leadership, and governance
4. Promote stronger health systems and improved patient care across the continent.
The theme of the 2026 conference focuses on harmonizing standards and elevating nursing and midwifery practice in Africa, reinforcing the profession’s collective voice in advancing healthcare and social wellbeing.
#NursesforPeace continues to highlight how nurses worldwide act as frontline advocates for health, compassion, and peace, especially in times of crises.
